Lauren WB Vermette fell in love with the craft of poetry under the guidance of Portsmouth NH’s first Poet Laureate, Esther Buffler. She was the inaugural winner of the Jane Andres Poetry Prize at her high school and had the privilege of studying poetry with Professor Mekell McBride at UNH. In 2013, she was named “Most Promising Poet” by Farmington’s Goodwin Library.A fixture at most of the local open mic poetry scenes, Lauren has been a featured reader for Rochester Writer’s Night, Rochester Library’s National Poetry Month Celebration, the First Friday Coffeehouse in Exeter, Portsmouth Community Radio’s “Writers in the Round” series, and Beat Night at The Press Room. Preferring to be known as a “painter with words”, Lauren writes poems that are audible works of art drawn from the heart, with images that linger long after the last line has faded from her lips.
Mike Nelson is the organizer and Host of Beat Night at The Press Room, the founder of Tribe Poetry Project and the Poet Laureate of Portsmouth. His ultimate dream is to become a gnome that lives in the nook of an old tree deep in the forest, swim with frogs in vernal pools, live on honey and blueberries and be friends with all the animals.
Kelly M. Flynn has been featured in Poet Showcase: An Anthology of New Hampshire Poets, and has published work in Spectacular Magazine and The Graham House Review. A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, she has read her work at the Blacksmith House in Harvard Square and at Phillips Exeter Academy, where she teaches English. A devoted organist, quilter, and flower gardener, Kelly has also been known to go on dog safari around the neighborhood with her trusty sidekick, a chocolate Lab named Pete, who lounges under her writing desk as the genius loci when she works. Although she grew up on a farm in Missouri, she is a fool for swanky dressy affairs and asks to be invited to any you might know about.
