Bright & Lyon and The Silo Series, together with Circulus, present an exploratory evening of words and music with writer Dan Beaulieu and Jonny Peiffer’s Sojoy in “Wanderkook’s Field Notes on Words,” featuring Colleen A. Madden and Cullen Delangie, on Saturday, April 8 at the Word Barn in Exeter, NH.
“Wanderkook’s Field Notes on Words” is part II in a work-in-progress series inviting audiences to experience and participate in the development of The Wanderkook Project. The work chronicles the adventures of the mythical adventurer and his discovery of nine tribes in The Land of The Two Suns. The “Field Notes” series is building toward the culmination of a theatrical run at W.E.S.T. in June 2017.
Peiffer’s score and Dean Diggins’ illustrations have informed the work of writer Dan Beaulieu as he recreated Wanderkook’s own journal entries through vivid, evocative poetry. Now, with an eye towards a full immersive performance in June, the text is being revisited, revamped, and refined in a hybrid live-performance work-session with the creative team. The audience will be treated to renditions of the text by performers Colleen Madden and Cullen DeLangie as they embody Wanderkook’s words.
The full show, produced and curated by Circulus, fuses music, dance, illustration, animation, film, and spoken word to examine ideas of community and habitat, and the essential role of artistic expression.
This event focuses on the relationship between music and the spoken word by offering a glimpse into the creative interplay between writer Dan Beaulieu, and Jonny Peiffer, the show’s composer.
Peiffer will lead his jazz septet, Sojoy, through the show’s score accompanied by excerpts of Beaulieu’s text as they play, experiment, and make new discoveries with your help.
